Sebastian Weingärtner is a research fellow at the Heidelberg University in the Lab for Computer Assisted Clinical Medicine. His current goal is the development of novel methods for quantitative characterization and diagnosis of cardiomyopathies using magnetic resonance imaging.

Sebastian earned his Dipl.-Inform. (comparable to M.Sc.) in Computer Science at the University of Wuerzburg in 2011, at the age of 19. In 2014 Sebastian completed his Ph.D. thesis under supervision of Prof. Reza Nezafat at the Harvard Medical School and Prof. Lothar R. Schad at the University of Heidelberg. In his Ph.D. thesis Sebastian developed novel methods for myocardial T1 mapping including methods based on combined saturation/inversion preparation, sliced interleaved sequences and methods for volumetric acquisitions.

Sebastian has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards including a research scholarship of the Deutsche-Telekom-Stiftung, the VDI-Award and the Jack-Steinberger-Award. His work on myocardial tissue characterization was acknowledged as a semi-finalist for the Young Investigator Award by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
